St. John the Baptist School’s eighth graders, from Plattsmouth, recently spent the morning learning about the design and construction of the Newman Center. Architect Kevin Clark also explained to the students the process that was used to select the saints pictured in the beautiful stained glass windows that enhance the building. After attending Mass, celebrated by Father Loras Grell, students visited the capitol and were given a private tour of the Nebraska Supreme Court courtroom and chambers by Supreme Court Justice Jeffery Funke. A highlight of the trip occurred when the students were allowed to sit in the justices' seats and try on their robes. The students also were introduced to Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Heavican who visited with the students and answered questions they had about the court.
