Monday, October 17th Sacred Heart Journalism students attended the Journalism Conference at UNL with sponsor Erin Waller. The Sacred Heart Journalism class received two Superior awards from the Nebraska High School Press Association (NHSPA). The first Superior award was for the 2016 Newspaper (The Spotlight) and they also received a Golden Kernel Award for Reader Aids. The second Superior award was for the 2016 Yearbook and they received a Golden Kernel Award for Use of Theme.
The NHSPA Newspaper Evaluation is designed to provide a framework for the judge in evaluating the newspa¬per, to reward the staff for creativity and accomplishments and to provide suggestions for improvement for future issues. A superior ranking means that the newspaper demonstrated excellence in most areas of scholastic journalism production, including consistently integrating writing, design and photography/art into publications.
The NHSPA Yearbook Evaluation is divided into five sections including reader assistance, coverage, writing, design, and photography. Each division in each section is rated as Superior (always), Excellent (frequently), Good (usually), Average (sometimes), or Needs Improvement (never). Congratulations to the Journalism students at Sacred Heart.
