Cathedral School teamed up with the Lower Platte South Natural Resource District (LPSNRD) to host a Science & Nature Explore Night on November 17th. The evening, which was attended by hundreds, broke down like this...
-Kindergarten through 5th Grade Families: Hands-on activities run from 6p-7:15p in the school gym. Over 20 tables were organized by the LPSNRD, including lessons on skeletons, reptiles, energy (LES), and pelts. This was coordinated by the LPSNRD and Science Chairs Mrs. Pat Mercer and Mrs. Kelley Garay.
-Sixth Graders: In Mrs. Kari Westmore's first campaign as the Junior High Science teacher, Sixth Graders presented their creative ideas at an "Invention Convention" in the church basement.
-Junior High: Science Fair projects were on full display in Rector and Benedictine Halls (church basement). Abby Reese won the 8th grade competition, and Andrew Rowley the 7th grade - Congrats to all for their strong projects under the direction of Mrs. Westmore.
Mr. Ekeler said, "This is an awesome event for the kids and families, and it coincides with our Science Curriculum development. I'm excited to bring my own family, and thank our Science Teachers for working as a team to create something special."
Mrs. Garay, who helped chair the event and the curriculum development, also noted, "Science is all about getting hands-on and experimenting. It's awesome to do this in a visual way, and even better when the work of our great students is validated."
McKenzie Barry, from the LPSNRD, was ecstatic at the outcome: "Our presenters had a blast, and so did I! Cathedral has a fantastic community and they definitely love Science and Nature. We can't wait to return!"
