The Falls City Sacred Heart Helping Hands were awarded the “You’ve Got the Hometown Spirit” Award from F&M Bank for the month of November. Helping Hands was started by Mrs. Marcia Schwartz while she was teaching at Falls City Sacred Heart. Mrs. Linda Kirkendall took it over after Mrs. Schwartz retirement. The group consists of 7-12 grade students that do volunteer work for their school, church and community. The group rakes lawns for the elderly, the school, and the church; helps individuals move; assists vendors in the annual Thanksgiving Craft Fair; wraps Christmas presents; picks up the stands after home basketball games; helps at the annual Turkey Bazaar and Knights of Columbus Fish Fry; and assists the Sacred Heart Fun Run as well as the Community Medical Center’s Cobblestone Fun Run and Golf Tournament.
Monies donated to the group over the years has gone to items needed for the school. Some those items purchased include: VCR’s, televisions, DVD’s, books for the library, snacks and breakfast foods for testing weeks, activities for Catholic Schools Week and music for the Christmas formal. Currently students are raising money to purchase 40- 8 ft. tables for the Roh Activity Center.
