Cathedral of the Risen Christ School received a $2,000 Working Here Fund grant for a tower garden project. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s (FCSAmerica) Working Here Fund.
Cathedral of the Risen Christ School will be introducing tower gardens to their curriculum. The tower gardens offer plants that germinate faster, use less water and are easily managed in a classroom environment. The school anticipates students will gain an appreciation for the food they consume and influence good eating habits after watching the food grow.
“We want to teach our youth about plants from seed to plate,” said Jeremy Ekeler, Principal of Cathedral of the Risen Christ School. “We anticipate our students will understand the anatomy of a seed, understand germination, plant anatomy and the process of photosynthesis.”
“At FCSAmerica, many of us grew up in agriculture and continue to farm. We know first-hand the value of agriculture education and are proud to partner with Cathedral of the Risen Christ School to ensure future generations have the same opportunities for learning,” said Amy Blomenberg, vice president of retail operations at FCSAmerica’s Lincoln office.
Cathedral of the Risen Christ School is one of 99 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the third quarter of 2016. FCSAmerica awarded $133,405 during the latest grant cycle ending September 30, 2016.
