The Cathedral Eagle S.O.A.R. Award is our monthly honor for a student who displays...
Saintly Character
Organization
A+ Attitude
Responsibility
We consider this our school’s highest honor because this award is about the student: Students nominate fellow students they feel live up to the definition of what it means to be an eagle.
On April 12, 2017 Cathedral recognized two SOAR Award Winners - one for March and one for the month of April: Delaney Volnek and Alec Goodwin, respectively. Both are currently 8th grade students at Cathedral, highly involved in activities, and tremendous role models to their siblings and school family.
Second grader Jacob Pagels discussed Alec; the two spend time together on Fridays as Alec gives up his off periods to mentor Jacob. Jacob said Alec makes learning fun, talks about baseball, teaches him to be nice to others, and always makes it a point to check in on him throughout the week. Principal Jeremy Ekeler noted that Alec is a consistent presence around the school and enters every situation with, "How can I help?" Primarily for these reasons Alec was also recently recognized by the Elks Club as one of their Teen of the Year honorees.
Mrs. Carol Miller noted that Delaney was one of the most responsible people she has ever worked with (Delaney volunteers in Mrs. Miller's after school program). Delaney is also a Dignity Ambassador, the school contact for the Spring Fling, winner of the nationally recognized Prudential Service Award, and also an Elks Teen of the Year Selection. Ekeler noted that she is the most active volunteer he's worked with in his time at Cathedral.
Congratulations to Alec and Delaney - Soar on!
