Q. Is everything that Jesus said and did in the Bible?
A. Good question. I appreciate you asking it.
The short answer is no. The Gospel of John 21:25 tells us, “There are also many other things which Jesus did which if they were written, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.”
One might ask, ‘why are these miracles, events, and words of Jesus recorded in the Bible and not others?’ I would say because these miracles, deeds and words of Jesus are the ones which the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit wished to inspire the human authors to record for us. That is, our Lord gave us what He wants us to have, what He believes is necessary for us to enter into relationship with Him, to live as He wishes so that we can spend eternity with Him.
One can only imagine what else Jesus said and did in His lifetime. For example, Scripture records Him raising three people from the dead: Lazarus, John 11:1-44; the son of the widow of Naim, Luke 7:11-17; and the daughter of the court official Jairus, Luke 8: 41 ff. Did Jesus raise others from the dead? While I can’t say with certainty, I would guess most likely He did. These are fascinating things to contemplate.
