I am happy to announce that Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska will be holding its 17th annual “Bountiful Harvest Banquet” in Hastings, Sunday, Sept. 13 at the Hastings City Auditorium.

We will be celebrating what God has allowed us to accomplish over the past year across the south central and western regions of the diocese of Lincoln through the generosity of our many generous donors. The social hour begins at 5 p.m. and the dinner and program at 6 p.m. Like previous years, because it is a ‘school night,’ we promise that we will be wrapped up by 8 p.m.

Last year, because of our many generous benefactors we were able to assist from the Hastings office $778,000 in services to 14,000 individuals and 5,300 families a number of ways including emergency services and grants for counseling for those who are unable to afford counseling services for some reason. There are many stories that could be shared, stories of individuals and families avoiding homelessness and others who have received help exiting homelessness. There are also stories of us assisting women and their children escape abuse and much more.

I am also happy to announce that this year we will be awarding the Caritas Christi Award (the love of Christ) to Larry and Connie Consbruck, whose love for their neighbors through the years has been a reflection of the love of Jesus Christ. Their volunteerism and work in the pro-life field is edifying to us all.

For those who are planning on coming and have not yet sent in their reservations, please do so for you have a few more days. For those who are not able to attend, please pray for us and always remember that we at Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska pray for our supporters, their family members and intentions daily.
