Recently, a concerned priest called about a woman with a small child in desperate need. Because of physical and mental disabilities, she is unable to hold a job.
I was happy to learn she is receiving counseling. Thank God for our charity grant program! In addition, she is seeking medical attention after having been involved in a serious automobile accident. All of these things are keeping her from working – at least for now.
Because of her disabilities, she is living solely on disability payments and because – in part from the absence of good advice – she was ‘in the red.’ Our experience is that individuals such as this have never had any budgetary advice. It was at this point she approached the priest mentioned above. After hearing her story, he called me.
After a brief conversation, the pastor in question was able to glean the necessary financial information for us to recommend she sell her car because of the high monthly payment. We were amazed that someone approved her loan in the first place. We discovered if she sold her car she would be ‘in the black.’ After informing her priest, we prayed for more donated vehicles. Within several months, the point was moot, as the bank repossessed her vehicle, for her inability to make her payments. For her, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
I am happy to say that because of the generosity of our donors, we will be giving a donated vehicle to this woman so she can get to her and her child’s doctor appointments. Of course, the overall goal is to help her heal from the physical and emotional difficulties and to eventually gain stable employment.
I would like to thank our generous benefactors who donate vehicles to us and to an anonymous donor who donated some money so we can fix some of the donated vehicles that are in need of repairs. Because of this wonderful donation, we will be able to give more cars away for we were never in the position to fix every vehicle donated to us in need of repairs.
Please keep our St. Christopher Car Donation program in your prayers and if you are getting near to purchasing a vehicle or are downsizing, please prayerfully consider donating it to Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska. Remember that your donation is tax deductible!
Please never forget that you, your family and intentions are in our prayers. St. Christopher, pray for us and for this important program!
