“Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food’” (Mt 25:34-35).
Recently, we helped a frightened woman who had escaped from the violent man who held her hostage in a closet for over a week without food.
After escaping, she was overwhelmed after moving into St. Gianna’s. In addition to living there rent-free, we will supply her with the food she needs for her new kitchen, decked out with the donations from our benefactors. When she graduates from St. Gianna’s, she will be able to take with her the plates and kitchenware she will need for her new home post-Gianna’s.
Until then, she is safe and sound. We will also be able to help furnish her new home with the donated furniture and appliances from our loving supporters.
Every Lent, multiple parishes and schools across the diocese participate in our annual Lenten Food drive. This year, 2,844 pounds were collected by the participating schools and 2,705 pounds were collected by the participating parishes for a total of 5,549 pounds collected. I cannot tell you how much this helps us in our mission of loving Jesus, who is present in the poor and needy in a special way.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s successful Lenten food drive. I cannot begin to tell you how grateful we are, as are the beneficiaries of your hard work and efforts.
As we bask in the Easter season graces, please help us spiritually with your prayers and penances, materially with items around your homes and farms not needed, including vehicles (many of the ladies at St. Gianna’s desperately need them), and financially, with a cash donation according to your means, so we can continue our mission of feeding, clothing, housing – literally loving Jesus in the countless individuals and families who come to us in crisis.
Please know that we at Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska will keep you, your family and intentions in daily prayers this Easter Season when we celebrate the definitive victory by Jesus Christ over sin and death.
