I am elated to announce that our annual Catholic Social Services Memorial Golf Tournament and Auction is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 12. This year we are honoring Bob McCabe, who was a great friend of the agency. Not only was he a wonderful friend of the agency, he played in this tournament for many years. One of Bob’s passions was working tirelessly in the pro-life movement. I cannot tell you how many times I have said to women contemplating an abortion the old Bob McCabe line that works wonders: “Your baby will be as beautiful as you are!” We are privileged to honor him this year.
Our silent auction includes a pristine, low mileage 1990 Cadillac Eldorado; a cute scooter; an overnight pheasant hunt; a set of irons; a little dune racer; a Trek 820 bicycle; a snow blower; a lawn mower; a gourmet dinner for 8-10 by yours truly; a wine fridge with some wine; a hot air balloon ride; and many more items.
Like last year, one need not be present to bid on these items. You can simply bid on any item via your smart phone or by text from anywhere. You will be updated on the status of your bid throughout the evening until bidding closes. You can even start bidding on items days before the tournament. For instructions on seeing these items and how to make a bid, please visit our auction website (www.qtego.net/qlink/cssgolf). You can even contact John McDermott for more information at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. He will be able to tell you if there are any more openings for teams in the morning flight. If you are interested in sponsoring a hole, John can help you with this too.
For those who will be golfing and attending the cookout in the evening, I look forward to seeing you then. If you cannot attend and are interested in checking out our silent auction, please see our website for more details. Please join me in saying a prayer for the happy repose of Mr. Bob McCabe, who had a role in my vocation to the priesthood (which is a story for another day). May the soul of Bob McCabe rest in peace, Amen!
