There are three things in life one can depend on: paying taxes, dying, and weeds growing out of control. Not long ago, despite spraying our parking lots, after several generous rains, the weeds starting growing out of control. So early one morning, I thought I would take matters into my own hands. I grabbed a garbage bag and started picking the bigger weeds in our back gravel lot. I figured if I sprayed them, we would have a lot of dead, brown weeds which are not very attractive.
After 10 minutes of weed pulling, my back bumped into something firm but not hard. I turned around and saw a middle-aged woman silently helping. It was our backs that collided. I wondered how many minutes she had been silently working. “Morning, Father!” she said.
After a brief conversation, I learned that she was a homeless woman trying to permanently get off the streets. She insisted on helping until every weed was pulled. To make a long story short, we are now in the process of getting her into a one-bedroom apartment and off the streets.
