A group of 40 gathered March 13 for our fourth annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration / fundraiser for St. Gianna’s Women’s Homes.

St. Gianna’s as you know, is a home for women (along with their children) escaping domestic violence and the pressures of having an abortion.

The host couples who helped plan the event are John and Gloria Strope, Sarah and Tim Donner, and Cathy and Eric Vath.

The event was held again, thanks to Jim and Barb Partington, at the beautiful Deer Springs Winery, located on east Adams Street just outside of Lincoln. The food was provided by Premier Catering, thanks to Tony and Carmen Messineo. And the beautiful Irish music and singing was performed by Whoozon 1st, made up of Don Bennett and Barb Biffle Bennett.

The evening was filled with good wine, corned beef and cabbage, beautiful music, and good conversation. All the couples and individuals who attended have a place in their hearts for the ladies and their children at St. Gianna’s who have escaped a violent situation. During the festivities, I announced that since opening, we have helped save 31 babies! Since the ladies come to us with little or nothing, we pay for their rent and utilities. I am happy to announce that this event helped us raise more than $10,000! We at St. Gianna’s Women’s Homes are most grateful.

Please stay tuned because next year, in addition to Barb and Don with Woozon 1st, there will be a surprise entertainer, someone you all know!

I would like to thank our host couples, sponsors, and those who attended, as well as all of the benefactors of St Gianna’s and Catholic Social Services in general. I know you help us for one reason alone. It is done - all for Jesus.

May He bless you abundantly this Lenten season and beyond. Saints Gianna and Patrick, pray for us!
