The Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln hosted “Light the Night” Jan. 29, a holy hour of thanksgiving and prayer for the gift of Catholic education in the Diocese of Lincoln.
Bishop James Conley spoke and the “Soaring Singers” choir from St. Michael School in Lincoln provided music. Priests were available to hear confessions. Participants were invited to come forward to the altar and light candles for prayer intentions.

The Newman Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln held a “40 Hours Devotion” to celebrate the feast of its patron saint, Thomas Aquinas. Thousands attended the 51st annual Nebraska Walk for Life was held Jan. 27 in Lincoln. Abortion survivor Melissa Ohden was the keynote speaker. The Walk, sponsored by Nebraska Right to Life, is the largest pro-life demonstration in the state. SNR photos | Natalie Bender.

The first "CHRISTmas at the Center" was held Dec. 9. Participants drove past Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House for a blessing from St. Nicholas and candy canes. The next stop was Villa Maria School and Home for Exceptional Children, to see a live nativity with Villa Marie students, and animals from Shepherd’s Rest and Rescue. Cars then proceeded to Marycrest Motherhouse to hear Christmas caroling of the Marian Sisters.

Bishop James Conley celebrated a vigil Mass Dec. 7 at St. Mary Parish in downtown Lincoln, for the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the patroness of St. Mary Parish, of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln and of the nation. The church, dedicated “St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception” for the Diocese of Lincoln in 1911, served as the cathedral of the diocese until the dedication of the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in 1965.
