By Fr. Justin Fulton

There’s an old tune performed by Willie Nelson that seemingly comes up in my mind about every mid-week when the due date for this column comes about.... “Funny How Time Slips Away.”

It is pretty much clockwork in my life. Always thinking I will get an article written quickly just once and procrastination, meetings, and life will dictate otherwise. I try to be intentional about writing one sooner and then get sidetracked. And then when the due date comes that haunting line comes back from a nasally, good-voiced, talented Willie... “Oh ain’t it funny…. how time just slips away.”

That’s typically when the Holy Spirit intervenes and the donors, volunteers, staff, and clients of Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska step up! And thank goodness they do... all of them are much better writers than myself! I find the best columns here simply share the voices and experiences of those we help out.

This week we would like to share how this person and her family were helped by your prayers, donations, and love. Listen to the excitement and love found in her voice:

Dear Father Fulton and the CSS Food Distribution Volunteers/Staff,

My children and I want to thank you for the recent food distribution at our school. As I was waiting in the drive-thru line to pick up the kids, I couldn’t stop crying. We recently experienced our first miscarriage and it was one of those moments where I just didn’t think I could be comforted.

When the kids climbed into the car they said, “Mom, can we get a bag of food, please?” They were so excited that it was “CSS Food Day”! This was the first time I’ve genuinely seen them excited since we told them about our little one. When we got home they enjoyed a snack of pudding cups and apple juice and I couldn’t have been more thankful for a can of chicken noodle soup. It was the comfort I needed on that day.

I was able to have a relaxing evening, letting the kids graze on the food provided and not cook dinner. I spent the time reflecting on the Will of God and a beautiful calmness was provided through His graces and I’m grateful for the contribution you, your staff, and volunteers made to that moment. It was just what the Divine Physician ordered.

The kids and I collected some money from their savings jars and my purse. Please accept our donation in thanks for the services you provide. It’s more than just food; it’s a kindness extended to a brother or sister in Christ. You’ll be remembered in our daily prayers. God bless you!

Love, Amy and Family

Thank you for this masterpiece, Amy and family! And thank you for being loved and sharing love.

May we all use the gift of time that God gives to each and every one of us to make this world a place of hope and love.

Thank you for your love of Jesus. Thank you for your time. And thank you for sharing your love of Jesus with others.

May God bless and keep us all!
