Seedlings readers may remember the story of a little girl staying with her mother at St. Gianna’s who, after being taken into the chapel for a visit and told that Jesus was in the gold tabernacle, wanted one day to say hello and sing a little song to Jesus as she and her mother walked by the chapel door.

Sister Bernadette, who witnessed this, said the little girl walked right in front of the altar and tabernacle and, while looking up at the crucifix, sang her rendition of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."

Recently, another little girl around the same age has taken a shine to Sister Bernadette. She likes to sneak out of her room and run down the hallway to Sister’s office. She likes to sit in the chair in front of the desk and ask all sorts of questions. Then, knowing we have cameras in the lobby, she likes to run outside the office and back to Sister’s computer to see if she is able to see herself on the screen.

Not too long ago, after running down the hallway to the office, she noticed Sister was absent. Disappointed, she asked one of the other sisters, “Where is Sister Bernadette?” They replied, “She is on retreat!”

Not knowing what a retreat was she asked, “What’s a retreat?” They replied, “That’s where someone goes to pray to God more.” She then said in a matter of fact manner that she must be in God’s house! Oh, out of the mouth of babes… the seeds planted that we pray grow to eternal life.

I am happy to announce that on Saturday, June 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Catholic Social Services will have our annual “Car Show & Shine” to benefit St. Gianna’s Women’s Homes. The event will be held at our St. Joseph Center (23rd and O streets, Lincoln). All the proceeds will benefit the many ladies and their children who come to St. Gianna’s escaping domestic violence and the pressures to abort their unborn children.

We are currently in our seventh year at St. Gianna’s and am amazed at the many successes we see helping the women we serve and their children. Just this morning after Mass, I greeted one of our mothers and her newborn baby.

I would like to thank Gary Bouc and the Capital City Ford & Mustang Club who are spearheading this project along with our other generous sponsors who are making this fun event possible. I hope to see you then, and if you are unable to attend, please pray for good weather and a blessed and successful event. St. Gianna, pray for us!
