Recently, Curt Krueger met a young woman at a gas station in distress because her car had ‘expired.’ After greeting this woman in obvious turmoil, he found out she had just escaped from a violent man and was living in an abandoned building, without running water and electricity. Now that her car had died, she was stressed even more.
In the midst of her suffering, she knew she could not go back to her abuser, but was at a loss of where to turn. Curt’s encounter was providential. I am happy to inform you, she is now safe and sound at St. Gianna’s and is a proud owner of a “new” older-model Buick that is in great shape, that we gave her from the CSS St. Christopher car donation program.
Not long ago, I received a heartwarming letter from Amy Flamminio in Lincoln about her 3-year-old daughter Ella.
It read, “Dear Fr. Kubat: When we got your mailing, my almost 4-year-old daughter immediately got out her piggy bank and gave every cent she owned. Then she asked every other member of our family and visitors if they wanted to ‘help the poor.’ She raised $3.84, to which I added $15. She wants me to mail her pennies, but a check will be lighter.” It makes me want to cry!
After reading this letter, I sent Ella a thank-you note. I believe this is the youngest person I have ever written a thank-you note to. After a few days I received another letter from Amy saying how glad Ella was to receive my letter and how happy she is to help the poor.
In addition to thanking Ella once again, I want to thank her parents, Amy and Tom, because despite the fact that Love itself was infused into a soul at her baptism, it has obviously grown because of the good example of her parents.
Thank you to all of our supporters and volunteers who help us assist the many individuals and families who come to Catholic Social Services and St. Gianna Women’s Homes in crisis, like the single mother I mentioned. Please know that you, your families and intentions are in our daily prayers!
