I am happy to announce that Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska will hold our 11th annual Bishop Glennon Flavin Memorial Sporting Clays Tournament Nov. 11 at Oak Creek Sporting Club (near Brainard).

As in previous years, all the proceeds will be used to serve poor and needy individuals and families who come to us in need across the 24,000 square miles of the Diocese of Lincoln.

Last year’s event was truly a “blast” and this year’s event will be bigger and better! Once again this year, your team has the option of choosing your start time. Registration, shooting and shooting games start at 9 a.m. with lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The last team will start at 1 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams. Game prizes and trophies will be awarded after the main event. I personally have received awards in the past at this event, but only on the backs of my teammates. As when I play golf, I usually apologize in advance for my shooting....

The cost for a five-person team is $625 which includes shells and lunch. Parish teams (must include a priest) are $500. If you do not have a team and want to participate, the cost is $125 and you will be placed with a (co-ed) team. Who knows? You might be placed on a team with a member like me who will apologize in advance for their shooting... or you could be placed on a team with members with nicknames like “Dead Eye.”

In addition, there are various sponsorship opportunities, including sponsoring priests who want to shoot. There are those who cannot attend but may want to support us by taking advantage of one of these sponsorship opportunities. If you want additional information or have questions please visit our website at www.cssisus.org or call 402-430-5626 and ask for John.

We are most grateful to our benefactors who support our mission of loving and helping Jesus Christ Who is present in the poor and needy in a special way. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of you ahead of time who will support this event in some way, either spiritually with your prayers or financially whether you are there physically or not!
Let us all say a prayer for the happy repose of Bishop Glennon Flavin, who loved to go hunting. Let us also ask him for his prayers for a successful event to help us in our mission of assisting the many individuals and families who come to us in crisis!
